Jaylen Bernard “JWat” Watkins was born on November, 27, 1991 in Fort Myers, Fl to the proud parents of Sammy Watkins III and Brandy Peterson. He grew up in a family full of talent, sports fanatics and athletes both collegiate and professional. He began his career in football at the age of five with the Pop Warner League Team Fort Myers Firecats playing quarterback and sometimes running back.
Most of his childhood was spent in Fort Myers, Florida. As Jaylen began to develop into his teenage years, he decided to join the Cape Coral Seahawks where he proudly wore the #7 as this number represents completion. Jaylen was able to graduate from high school six months early. He earned himself a 4-year athletic scholarship to the University of Florida, where he received his Bachelors of Arts in Family & Youth Community Science. Jaylen has had the opportunity to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game in Texas in 2010 as well as participating in the Senior Bowl game in Alabama.
Jaylen’s talent has proven to be a talent to reckon with as he was drafted in the 4th round as the 1st pick in the year of 2013 to the Philadelphia Eagles as a corner/free safety. This position with the Philadelphia Eagles was definitely a lifetime dream brought to fruition. He's currently signed to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Jaylen is dedicated to giving back and spends a lot of free time volunteering and participating in community/charitable events. He returns to his hometown, Ft. Myers, Florida every year during his off season to volunteer and participate in community events. This includes regular visits to his mom’s classroom, mentoring students, and church functions including providing dinners for the homeless. Jaylen enjoys back-to-school drives as he provides free haircuts and backpacks to prepare students for each school year.
He’s always expanding his horizons and has a hunger for information whether it be history or deep/thoughtful conversations with other people. He wants to make the world a better place by doing his part in any situation/experience that life brings his way. He’s always open to new thoughts or ideas and trying to incorporate new things in his life. He loves helping others succeed and making everyone around him a better person.
